Sons of Anarchy Season Six, Episode One - Straw

I've been just a little bit excited for the return of my favourite show, Sons of Anarchy. So I decided to do a blog post about the first episode which was called, Straw. If you haven't seen it, then leave now. Equally, if you're not interested, leave. We're about to get all up in SAMCRO's grill.

This won't be a play by play for the episode. Rather, I'm going to highlight certain scenes that spoke to me. Events that made me yell at my screen, and ultimately toss my, thankfully empty, cup across the room.

The opening was good. We were shown the new positions in the club, Chibs at VP and Happy is Sgt at Arms. We also got to see how Abel and Thomas have grown since the end of the last season. Awww. Kurt has continued the strong ties of family with the club. It doesn't matter that the kids are Jax and Tara's, everyone pitches in. Even Tig. For those of you who know Mr Tig Trager, you'd realise just how scary a thought that is. However, after watching his daughter be burned alive last season, it appears he's a little more reserved this season.

That being said, when a certain Persian threatens to film the rape and torture of Tig's daughter, he drowns said man in a bath tub full of urine. Ohhh, how I love Tiggy. While you get over that, check out the cute scenes between Tig, and Jax's kids.

Ima. This woman will not disappear! *sigh* Having rescued Opie's widow from a torture porn set, the blonde thinks that she's all the rage. Of course, it was all Ima's stupid idea in the first place. Because Lyla was Opie's wife, the club take off to handle the men who stabbed, and burned her. This scene bares mentioning because the amazing Gemma steps in and bounces Ima's face off the bar. We all wanted to do it for the situation she got Lyla into, and Gem got it done.

At first I felt for Lyla, we all want Opie back. Sadly woman, you need to move the fuck on. Getting out of  the porn industry might be a good idea as well.

It appears Jax is accepting of Juice's betrayal of the club in the previous seasons, and tells his new VP, Chibs, to allow Juice to earn back their trust. Our resident Scott isn't 100 percent on board with that, and closes up the garage to 'get right' with Juice. The beating that ensues satisfied me as a viewer. For all that Juice has done, he deserved it, and he had the decency to take it like a man. For every punch that knocked him to the floor, he got back up and waited for the next.

Jax was his usual wheeling and dealing self.

And back to his whorish ways from the earlier seasons. If you're after a gif of Jax's ass while he was sinking into Collette, you can tumblr that shit. It seems that women all over the world are a little upset about the fact that Jax, once again, hasn't been faithful to Tara. I suggest you take the time to watch Anarchy Afterword, Kurt answers this question on the show.

For those of you that watched, Tara is still in jail in the season premier. With a chance of going home the following day. That is, until the end of the episode where she gets up off the bed and gives a fellow inmate a beating. I've got to hand it to Tara, it's not often she'll smack somebody physically, but when she does, boy does she do it well. Who can forget when she used her cast to smack Carla around? Carla did almost get Jax killed, another well deserved smack down in my opinion.

Do I come across blood thirsty?

The last point I want to mention is the kid. You all know the one. The little blonde that was too old to be Abel. When he first came on screen, I thought that they'd flashed the episode forward a few years and the blonde kid would be Abel.

Then we actually saw Abel, but this other kid kept popping up. I started to get annoyed at the lack of interesting scenes this kid had, that was, until he sat on a park bench in a school and pulled out a KG-9.

The slaughter that occurred was tastefully filmed and very impactual. I honestly don't think anyone needed to see children being gunned down first hand. The visual cues within the scene, hinted towards a kid who was bullied and this was his retaliation. Regardless, my jaw hit the floor. Only Kurt Sutter would have the balls to do something so brave on TV, and be able to pull it off.

Jax's inability to just let Collette suck his dick and move on caused me to toss my cup across the room. Seriously though, watch Anarchy Afterword. While Kurt doesn't excuse Jax's behaviour, the explanation for where Jax is and what he needs, will help. Just don't forget that while, at present his wife refuses to see him, she also was taking his kids and leaving him moments before the police dragged her ass to jail at the end of last season.

In true SOA style, the logo flashes up to signify the end of the episode WAY too soon.
