Vince and Rookwood

Recently I got the opportunity to listen to Vince Gilligan speak about the awesome art he creates in both written and visual forms.

My reaction was one of awe and wonder. This man's creativity inspires me to no end. The event was equal parts for Breaking Bad fans and aspiring writers.

If you're interested in seeing the event, the awesome folks at the Sydney Writers Festival have posted the footage from the night online for all to see.

During my time in Sydney I took a train trip, let me tell you they have it together down there as far as trains go, out to the Rookwood cemetery. This is the oldest cemetery in Sydney and the largest in the southern hemisphere. Both facts make my inner goth squee.

The place is beautiful, with amazing pieces of Australian history hidden in every row. Stories of awe and tragedy lined up beside one another. There is a vibe that can only be felt in a place like that, and it's ever my quest as a writer to capture that. The day I can transform that feeling to written word will be the day I feel accomplished. In the meantime, I'll share some photos of my favourite mausoleums.

The historic family vaults were my main reason for making the journey out from Sydney city. Something about those old structures call to me creatively. While my photography is very amateur point and click, I hope you can see what I see in these wonderful pieces of architecture.
