Helloooooo there peeps! It might appear that I’ve forgotten about this blog but I assure you I haven’t. I haven’t really had anything positive to say so I’ve censored myself.
I’m working on a few things, including toying around with my first story which features a particularly evil woman with blonde hair. It’s a story that I originally wrote vampires into and I’ve since sworn I wouldn’t write that type of tale. However the muse slapped me upside the head recently with a solution so I’m working on piecing the new and improved version together.
As for The Victorian, I’ve placed this one aside for now to percolate. It needs some breathing space so I’m giving the story that. In a few months I’ll pick it up again and massage it a little more.
One thing I’ve been discussing recently with an American author friend of mine is the timeline of writing. She has a crazy writing schedule which gives me heart palpitations to just hear about. Though she thrives on it, so power to the sista, I say.
Seeing her schedule put mine into perspective. I don’t have the same pressures. I have nothing but time, which can be a bad thing because I can get easily distracted by this little thing you may have heard of, the internet. Instead, I’ve decided to take this in a, the glass is completely full bitches, approach. I have the time to perfect my work. To make it the best it can be. No excuses for a half assed effort.
Along those lines, Peter M Ball did a great blog on the desire to be published recently. He spoke about how writers who want a career really need to think bigger. That it takes approximately five books to build some sort of audience. Unless your goal is to just publish one piece, which I can assure you mine is not. If you haven’t read Peter’s blog, make sure you check it out. He has some great things to say.
Also I’ve been meaning to check in with my plan for 2014…though avoidance has won out every time. In my next post I’m going to tackle this head on. No bull. It’s time to face the faeces loaded fan blades.
Until then…
Alysha.
