Dear Hope #3

Oh my dear Hope, how the time does fly. Yes, I'm alive. Not well at present but very much alive. All hail cold and flu meds!

While I fade in and out of lucidity on my couch I'm re-watching American Horror Story Coven and boy does it make me think of you. All those conversations we had over stories, our own and others, fact and fiction. I miss your fucking face. I miss our chats. We shall get them back. It also makes me think of my own work but that's a conversation for another day.

Now to the topic at hand, long winded author bios. In our present technologically connected society people do have the tendency to over share on their lives. Thinking that the world either wants to know, needs to know and assuming that people give a shit. Don't get me wrong, some people do. They crave to know all that they can about their favourite author. Look at J.K. Rowling. The poor woman can't take a shit without someone de-constructing every corn kernel.

I certainly don't read as many author bios as you do in your line of review work, however I have come across authors who have the long personal bio as well as professional bio that is shorter that can be used in magazines and for reviewers like yourself.

I'm not surprised you want to grammatically correct peoples bios. Hell you're currently picking this post apart as well. I don't think that it's necessary to edit other peoples work wherever you go. If you're worried about having badly constructed work on your blog, then you can always 'quote' their bio. That way it's clear that you're posting it as it was provided to you regardless of the faux pas contained within.

As for shortening an author bio to fit on your blog I don't think is appropriate. If it's too long for your liking then I'd advise that you provide a link to its full location on their website or the like. It's about respect for the author's work. Their bio is something they've written and I don't think it's appropriate to edit their book or anything else they've written. Despite how tempting it might sometimes be.

Hope this helps.
